Giuseppe Canella, Limone lago di Garda, (1845), olio su tela, 30x40 cm, MAG

The refurbishment of the Art Gallery in the Museo di Riva del Garda, started in recent years with the aim of enhancing the theme of landscape in the collections, continues in 2017 to strengthen this focus, which is developed throughout the first floor of the Museum, offering a new layout and displaying new acquisitions together with some historical pieces that have been brought out from storage.

Figuring landscape is to be seen by slowly passing through the spaces dedicated to Old Masters, the Napoleonic period or the nineteenth-century drawing room of Andrea Maffei. It is also to be seen in the topographic maps and prints, drawings and paintings, historical and contemporary photographs. The intention is to stimulate comparisons that are not just aesthetic but also temporal and in terms of forms of expressions, able to suggest affinities between the “views” on display, sometimes distant in time and artistic form, but sometimes exactly matching.
